There are two broad families: standing-seam, where the fasteners are concealed beneath raised seams for a clean, modern, weather-tight panel; and exposed-fastener, where Tuff Rib panels — the profile we install — fasten through the face of the panel for a more economical metal roof. Both shed water fast and stand up to wind better than most shingle systems. On an existing exposed-fastener roof, the fasteners themselves are the maintenance item: we re-screw metal roofs with Lifetime WoodZac screws when the originals back out or their washers fail.

On the Gulf Coast the details are what make a metal roof last: a high-temperature underlayment that can take the heat a metal panel transfers, and coastal-rated fasteners and trim that resist the corrosion salt air drives. Installed correctly, a metal roof is one of the longest-lasting roof types available — but it is unforgiving of shortcuts, so panel layout, fastening, and flashing are done to specification for the system being installed.
